Privacy policy
Your privacy and your story
1. Scope and operator
This Privacy Policy applies to the No Swim With Pigs website, petition, anonymous-reporting tools, public story pages, media uploads, administrative tools, and related communications (collectively, the “Services”). “No Swim With Pigs,” the “Campaign,” “we,” “us,” and “our” mean the operator of these Services.
This policy does not govern websites, booking companies, cruise lines, resorts, government agencies, social networks, news publishers, or other third parties linked from the Services. Their practices are governed by their own policies.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Petition information: name, email address, country or territory, signature consent, and whether you allow your first name and country to appear publicly.
- Reports and stories: the account you write; selected concern category; optional email; general location; approximate month; company, ship, excursion, resort, or booking context; supporting links; consent choices; and attestations.
- Photos and videos: files, filenames, file type, size, and embedded information that may exist in uploaded files. We may remove metadata, crop, blur, caption, excerpt, compress, transcode, or decline to publish media.
- Communications: messages and information you provide when you contact us, request a correction or removal, respond to a moderator, or assert legal rights.
Information collected automatically
When you use the Services, our hosting, security, and delivery systems may process network and device information such as IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, requested URLs, timestamps, approximate location inferred from IP, error records, and security events. The reporting system may transform an IP address with a secret salt into a one-way rate-limit identifier to deter spam and abuse. This improves privacy but is not a guarantee of anonymity.
Sensitive information
A report may voluntarily include sensitive information about health, safety, crime, harassment, sexual misconduct, or a traumatic experience. Please provide only what is relevant and safe to share. Do not submit passwords, government identification numbers, financial account data, private medical records, intimate images, or information that identifies a victim or other private person without lawful authority and informed permission.
3. How we use information
We may use information for the following purposes, as reasonably necessary and permitted by law:
- operate, maintain, administer, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Services;
- record and validate petition signatures, calculate totals, and display only the supporter information authorized for public display;
- receive, organize, review, fact-check, moderate, redact, edit, categorize, summarize, format, publish, unpublish, archive, or respond to reports in accordance with the submitter's public or private selection;
- contact a submitter who expressly permits private follow-up;
- detect spam, fraud, security threats, unlawful conduct, manipulation, and violations of our Terms;
- investigate disputes, preserve evidence, enforce agreements, defend legal claims, and protect the Campaign, its users, animals, and the public;
- comply with applicable law, court orders, subpoenas, or valid governmental demands and respond to emergencies involving a credible threat of serious harm;
- create and use aggregated or de-identified statistics, research, advocacy materials, safety analyses, press materials, and public-interest reporting that do not reasonably identify an individual; and
- communicate material policy, service, safety, or legal updates.
Where a law requires a legal basis, we rely as applicable on consent, performance of a requested service, compliance with legal obligations, and legitimate interests such as operating a public-interest advocacy platform, preventing abuse, protecting legal rights, and improving safety. You may withdraw consent for future processing, but withdrawal does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful.
4. Public stories, petition display, and editorial use
Private submission: If you do not select public posting, we do not intentionally publish your report or uploaded media to the public. We may still store, moderate, secure, investigate, summarize in de-identified form, respond to legal process, and use the submission to protect our legal rights.
Public submission: If you select public posting, you authorize us to make the account, general location, approximate month, booking context, supporting link, and eligible media publicly available under an anonymous label. We may edit for length, clarity, safety, privacy, style, duplication, legal risk, and relevance without changing the account's material meaning. We may decline to publish or later remove anything.
Petition display: If you select the public supporter option, we may display your first name and country or territory. Your email address is not displayed as part of the public supporter list.
Public material may be indexed by search engines and copied, quoted, downloaded, archived, republished, or captured by third parties beyond our control. Removing it from our Services may not remove third-party copies, search caches, screenshots, archives, quotations, or materials already lawfully distributed. We do not promise that a public submission can be completely recalled.
6. Retention and international processing
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here, including maintaining petition integrity and published archives, administering submissions, supporting public-interest advocacy, resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, complying with law, and protecting legal rights. Retention can vary based on sensitivity, consent status, legal obligations, and operational need. We may retain deleted or unpublished material in restricted backups, legal holds, security records, or archival systems until it is safely overwritten or no longer needed.
The Services and their providers may process information in the United States and other countries whose privacy laws may differ from those where you live. Where required, we use legally recognized safeguards for international transfers.
7. Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, confirmation, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or an appeal of a privacy decision. You may also complain to your local data-protection regulator. These rights are not absolute; we may deny or limit a request where permitted by law, including to protect others, preserve free-expression or public-interest records, comply with legal obligations, prevent fraud, or establish and defend legal claims.
To protect submitters and prevent fraudulent removals, we may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify identity, authority, or control of the email or submission. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law, subject to verification.
California and certain other U.S. residents may have rights to know, delete, correct, obtain a copy of, or limit certain uses of personal information; to opt out of a sale or covered sharing; and to receive equal service after exercising a right. We do not discriminate for exercising applicable privacy rights. Because we do not currently sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no sale/sharing opt-out to apply to current practices.
8. Security, cookies, and no guarantee
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information, including access controls for administrative exports and hosted storage. No website, transmission, database, moderation process, or storage system is completely secure. You submit information at your own risk, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed, disclosed, altered, lost, or destroyed.
The Services and hosting providers may use essential cookies, local storage, or similar technologies for security, load balancing, preferences, fraud prevention, and basic operation. If optional analytics or advertising technologies are added later, we will update this policy and provide any legally required notice or choice before using them.
9. Children
The Services are intended for people age 18 or older and are not directed to children. Do not submit information about a child or upload media depicting a child unless you have lawful authority and it is necessary to a legitimate safety report. If we learn that we collected a child's personal information unlawfully, we may delete or restrict it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Services, law, or our practices change. We will post the revised policy and change the “Last updated” date. We may provide additional notice when required by law. Changes apply prospectively from their stated effective date; we will not retroactively turn a private report into a public post without the submitter's authorization.
11. Contact and requests
Questions, privacy requests, corrections, and removal requests may be sent to privacy@noswimwithpigsbahamas.com. For legal notices, email legal@noswimwithpigsbahamas.com. Please do not include sensitive evidence in an initial email.
